Check Out My Two New Ebooks!

Check out my two new ebooks, "Jesus and Demons: Will They Share A Temple?" and "Woman, Sit Down and Shut Up: Does God Believe In Women Preachers?"

They're both available in Kindle format at www.amazon.com and in Kindle, Epub and Pdf format at www.ruthsbooks.webplusshop.com.

In "Jesus and Demons" I explore the question of whether Christians can have demons.  I had never heard of such a thing until I moved to Mississippi.  Using Scripture, the reader is allowed to make their own decision.
In Woman, Sit Down and Shut Up, the question of women preachers is discussed.

Both books are based on Bible studies that have been presented at my present church and by request, to a youth group at a previous church.

Summary:

When Jody breaks her mother's special cookie jar, she feels horrible but is even more afraid of telling the truth. When she studies God's commandment 'Thou shalt not lie' during devotion time, she begins to feel badly about lying, and another Bible story leaves Jody completely conflicted. Will Jody tell the truth or keep her lie quiet? Find out in I Cannot Tell a Lie.

My Review:

This is a great faith-based book to pick up and share with your children about not telling a lie. Jody mistakenly breaks a family heirloom cookie jar and tries to put the blame on her siblings. But, the lie began to eat her up inside and that night she had bad dreams. Not being able to continue the lie, she breaks down and tells her mother that she was the one who broke the cookie jar, and was so sorry for lying. Her mother thanked her for telling the truth, and said that she had to apologize to Jesus for lying and ask for forgiveness. They both knelt down and Jody prayed for forgiveness and the strength to not tell another lie.
I loved the illustrations in the book, especially the half eaten cookies shown on each page. This is an easy to read book and a great teaching tool to use with your children when teaching them not to lie.

About the Author:

Ruth Thompson has been a frequent speaker at women's conferences and revivals in the state of Mississippi. She is a pastor. Ruth is married and has two grown children: Jacob and Beth.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book by the author in order to write up an honest review. The views above are mine and mine alone.

Book Review by Heavensent1

I Cannot Tell A Lie is a morally inspired story about lying using a Christian slant to help model the correct response to a situation that involves the truth from being told. The illustrations are colourful and engaging and each page has half eaten cookies upon it to remind the reader the underlying principle of the story.

After Jody breaks her mothers special cookie jar, she is devastated and decides to lie to her mother about her involvement. When her mother questions Jody about the broken cookie jar, Jody points the blame on her sister. After a family devotional on which the scripture studies were about God's commandment "Thou Shalt not lie", Jody is left feeling confused and upset. She doesn't like how she feels and she doesn't know what she should do to make it better. Turning to God through prayer, Jody asks for help in her choices...will Jody learn from her mistakes?? Or will she ignore the bad feeling inside her and let the lie get bigger?

Review by Creating Childhood Memories: One Day At A Time

I Cannot Tell A Lie is a morally inspired story about lying using a Christian slant to help model the correct response to a situation that involves the truth from being told.  The illustrations are colourful and engaging and each page has half eaten cookies upon it to remind the reader the underlying principle of the story.

SYNOPSIS:
Fighting with the demons inside of herself, Jody wonders, should she tell the truth?  Or continue lying to save herself the punishment that is sure to come??  Only Jody can choose to make the correct decision by looking deep within herself and deciding what kind of person she wishes to be.

Book Review From peopleoffaith.com

I Cannot Tell a Lie by Ruth Thompson is a faith-based children’s book written to convey a lesson about lying (duh) and the wonderful benefit of repentance. Jody is a seven-year old girl who inadvertently breaks her mother’s antique cookie jar while getting an afternoon snack. Out of fear, Jody chooses to not disclose this incident to her mother and when confronted with the issue, she plays dumb. Jody’s mother is a wise Christian mother who takes the opportunity to use God’s Word to bring conviction rather than accuse her daughter. Eventually the child comes clean and her mother leads her in a prayer of repentance. After repenting, Jody feels all of her guilt disappear and her joy return.

As a mother myself who has addressed the issues of repentance with my child, I really appreciate that Thompson did not simply have the child pray for forgiveness, but she also asked to be changed. So many times I have heard children say sorry or ask for forgiveness, but repentance is not just about forgiveness. Repentance is about change.

Overall, I feel that this is a very well written children’s book. Parents will appreciate it as a teaching tool while at the same time the children will enjoy the sweet illustrations.
